Product description
Atorvastatin is a lipid-lowering
agent. It inhibits selectively and competitively the
3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. This enzyme
catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, an early and rate limiting
step in the synthesis of cholesterol.
Indications
Atorvastatin is indicated for the
treatment of
Primary hypercholesterolemia
Heterozygous familial
hypercholesterolemia
Homozygous familial
hypercholesterolemia
Combined (mixed) hyperlipidemia
In patients who have not responded
adequately to diet and other appropriate measures.
